Internet Workshop for Journalism Trainers

I watch a lot of Television particularly international news. How else, would I better enjoy living in this Great Big World God created, without relating with the public and being involved in News on a daily basis? I do not know. I believe that even people in other professions can not live their lives without news or public relations.
I love my job, teaching, and I love my students very much.

Dear Nkirote,

I came across your blog when I was researching Tumaini University. I have been trying to get in touch with the journalism department during the past few weeks and wondered whether you might be able to help me. I hope you do not mind me contacting you.

I am a journalist on a regional newspaper in the South West of England, looking to offer my services as a voluntary teacher in Tumaini's School of Journalism.

I have two year's experience as a news reporter and photographer and just under one year's experience as a production assistant on a national U.K. consumer magazine.

At present, my position on the regional newspaper also involves writing for the internet, uploading stories using a content management system, editing and laying out articles for the web and general website management, such as attaching picture galleries and interactive links. I notice on your website you are looking for journalists with experience in electronic media and wondered whether I could be of any service to you.

Of course, I would be more than happy to teach print journalism to students too, having the majority of my experience in this field. I am well-rehearsed at writing news stories, features, reviews and covering local government meetings, such as district and town council discussions. I am also a photographer and would be more than happy to teach photo journalism classes.

I have volunteered in Iringa before with Neema Crafts. I stayed in the town from May to August 2008 and produced a promotional handbook on behalf of the charity, which they are now selling in their shop. I interviewed the staff about their life journeys, took photographs of them and produced a short history of the charity.

Could I ask how long you expect volunteer teachers to stay with you for? I feel at present, due to my financial situation, I could only afford to stay with you for six months. But perhaps we could discuss this if needed and come to an agreement.

I would be more than happy to send you my CV if you are interested. I have already sent a copy of it to the general Tumaini email address.

I very much look forward to hearing from you.

With many thanks,

Ms Laura Male
